CLARKSBURG, Mass. (July 24, 2014) – Veteran race official John Decato will rejoin New England’s premier snowmobile race sanctioning body for 2014-2015, as East Coast Snocross (ECS) is pleased to announce he has accepted the position of Technical Director.

Decato has been involved with snowmobile racing as an official for 15 years. He served as Tech Director for four seasons with the former Rock Maple Racing circuit, and for the first season ECS was in operation. Prior to his time in snocross, Decato put in a decade of service on the snowmobile grass drag circuit, serving as technical director for the popular Woody’s Northeast Grass Drag Series.

“We’re pleased to have John back on staff for this coming winter,” said ECS general manager Shawn Achilles. “John is a great guy to work with on race weekends. He’s focused, and really knows what he’s doing when it’s time to inspect the sleds. With his great personality, years of experience and strong skills, he’ll make a great addition to our ECS staff. We’re very fortunate to have him on board.”

Decato took two years away from the sport to enjoy his family. He and wife Rhonda reside in Loudon, New Hampshire, enjoying all that the beautiful Lakes Region has to offer. Rhonda has also been a familiar face on both the grass drag and snocross circuits, serving in an administrative capacity. Both Rhonda and John have been fixtures in pit areas around the northeast since the late 1990s.

“I’m excited to get back to the tracks this winter and serve the series,” Decato said. “I really enjoyed my involvement in the past; it’s the teams, riders and focus on safety I enjoy. Keeping a level playing field for riders in all classes and ensuring all racers are safe is an important part of the sport.”

Work continues behind the scenes here at ECS despite the heat and humidity which continues to pour into New England. Efforts are ongoing to assemble a 2014-15 schedule that is not only practical for race teams, but also of interest to our highly-valued marketing partners. Negotiations continue with potential new sites to showcase the great sport of snocross in new markets.

There is also an effort under way to keep the prestigious Triple Crown Series alive for 2014-15. This high-stakes trifecta between ECS teams and their Quebec-based SCMX rivals has produced some of the best regional snocross racing ever witnessed here in the east. It is hoped that through hard work and open minds, the Triple Crown Series will again be an integral part of the overall schedule.

East Coast Snocross, presented by AMSOIL and Woody’s Traction, is the eastern regional affiliate of ISOC. ECS strives to maintain a healthy level of competition in grassroots snocross, while also cultivating new talent for tomorrow’s factory-backed national teams.
