Bullring Bash Coming to WMMP for “Thunder in the Mountains” This Saturday
N. Woodstock, NH – The Bullring Bash Quarter Mile Challenge presented by RaceChoice.com invades N. Woodstock. NH’s White Mountain Motorsports Park (WMMP) this Saturday, August 10. The “Thunder in the Mountains” features big-money events for both Tour-type asphalt Modifieds and the Midstate Site Development Legends that will feature some of the biggest names in Northeast motorsports.
Anticipation for the debut of the Bullring Bash has grown even further in recent weeks. Saturday’s event will now be the inaugural event after an early-season weather cancellation, making it the stage for unveiling the all-star format that sure to appeal to racing fans throughout the region.
The Bullring Bash Modified Thunder in the Mountains 100 has already received entries from many top Modified drivers. The 100-lap shootout pays $3,500 to win and $800 to start, making it one of the larger purses of the season for many asphalt Modified drivers. It is also an automatic qualifier for the $12,500-to-win Race of Champions 250 at Pennsylvania’s Lake Erie Speedway on September 29.
As such, racers from Maine to New York are gearing up to chase the top prize. Stafford, CT’s Woody Pitkat, the number-three driver in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour points and a two-time Valenti Modified Racing Series (VMRS) Champion, was one of the first drivers to enter the Bullring Bash. Another past VMRS Champion, 2017 titlist Anthony Nocella of Woburn, MA, recently joined the entry list as did current VMRS point leader Mike Willis of Grantham, NH.
Several other names that Modified fans instantly recognize have committed to Saturday’s event. Tonawanda, NY’s Andy Jankowiak, a Race of Champions Asphalt Modified regular and regional barnstormer, is expected at WMMP. He’ll be joined by three-time VMRS Champion Kirk Alexander of West Swanzey, NH; multi-time VMRS winner Richard Savary of Canton, MA; multi-time Monadnock Speedway Champion Russ Hersey of Swanzey, NH; and many others excited for the Bullring Bash debut.
The Midstate Site Development Legends also have a big show at WMMP on Saturday. The $1,500-to-win Thunder in the Mountains 35 is sanctioned by INEX and awards points toward the INEX Legend Car national and state championships. It’s also a qualifier for the INEX Legends Asphalt World Championships in October.
The entry list for the Legends portion of the event is also full of big names. 2016 INEX Legend Semi-Pro Oval National Champion Noah Korner of Canton, CT; two-time INEX Legend Young Lion Road Course World Champion Jack Walker of Nashua, NH; and four-time NELCAR Legends Tour Champion Bob Weymouth of Pelham, NH are just a few of the drivers who have registered. Defending New London-Waterford Speedbowl Champion Peter Bennett, multi-time winner John O’Sullivan, and New York veteran Kevin Nowak are among the others expected to roll into the pits Saturday.
The evening also includes a full card for WMMP’s Foley Oil & Propane Late Models and Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers. Groveton, NH’s Quinny Welch is in the catbird seat for his fifth straight Late Model championship and eighth overall. He holds and 81-point lead over five-time champion Stacy Cahoon of St. Johnsbury, VT, who will be looking to cut into the margin. Mike Bailey, Oren Remick, and Jeff Marshall aren’t far behind Cahoon, meaning there could be some moving and shaking down the stretch of the season.
In the Flying Tigers, Barton, VT’s Shane Sicard is putting the finishing touches on a dream season. Sicard picked up his sixth win of the season last Saturday to give him an 86-point lead over Plainfield, VT’s Michael Potter. Car counts for the division have grown considerably in recent weeks, setting up an exciting night of action regardless of who comes out on top.
Qualifying for the Thunder in the Mountains begins at 6:00pm on Saturday, August 10. White Mountain Motorsports Park hosts a full night of action that includes the Bullring Bash Modifieds, Midstate Site Development Legends, Foley Oil & Propane Late Models, and Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers. The front gates open at 3:00pm. Admission is $25 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12, and $50 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).
