Eddie MacDonald Wins GSPS at Thompson Speedway World Series
WALPOLE, NH.

19 drivers entered the series event on Friday of the World Series at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. At the end of the 50 lap feature the familiar #17ma of Eddie “The Outlaw” MacDonald took the checkered flag. “My guys worked hard all practice long” MacDonald said. “We had to change a clutch earlier and we pulled through for the win.”

MacDonald made it through the early cautions unscathed as on lap seven the #37 of Larry Gelinas came across the front straight away broadside barely collecting points leader Devin O’Connell. Just a few laps later a part failed in the left rear of second in points #73 Joey Doiron on the exit of turn four and the rear of the field went up in a cloud of Doiron’s smoke. O’Connell hooked a hard left and made it through.

The remainder of the race went caution free. As the top three of Eddie MacDonald, Todd Stone, and Tommy O’Sullivan were all within a few car lengths of each other. As the run went on, O’Sullivan began to charge on Stone for second. O’Sullivans experience let him to get just side by side as he and Stone exited turn 4 in the closing laps but, O’Sullivan backed out as the car seemed a bit unstable off the bottom and just skimmed the front straight grass.

Just 20 years young, Devin O’Connell of Madison CT, is going into the final race of the 2018 season with a 30 point lead over second place Joey Doiron. With two wins on the season O’Connell has a great chance to win his first late model touring championship.

Our next event is Saturday, October 20th at the Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, CT.
