More Excitement Expected For PASS North Return To Beech Ridge This Weekend
NAPLES, ME (April 25) – After a successful move last year from the Fall to its current date in April, one of New England’s biggest race weekends is coming up for competitors and race fans alike. The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models and PASS Modifieds, along with the North East Mini Stock Tour and Classic Lights, head to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME, this Saturday afternoon to bring together some of the best drivers from the Northeast.
Waterboro, ME’s Curtis Gerry comes into Saturday’s 200 lapper as one of the hottest drivers on the New England racing scene. Riding a three-race PASS win streak at Oxford Plains Speedway, including the 2017 Oxford 250 and last weekend’s Maine season opener, Gerry returns to his home track full of confidence.
“The first win of the season is huge for us after overcoming all the changes we made during the offseason due to rules changes,” says Gerry, with sponsorship this year from Ripley & Fletcher Ford and Saco House of Pizza. “Going into Beech Ridge, our home track, with a win already, it gives me confidence in the car.”
After flying under the radar for much of his career, Gerry has all of a sudden established himself as one of the drivers to beat whenever he shows up at the track. It is a role he relishes, especially when it comes to competing at Beech Ridge.
“It takes a fast car and a lot of finesse to win at the Ridge,” says Gerry. “It’s a very challenging track and you have to be good in both grooves and you must save your stuff for the end. It would be awesome for us to pull off a win this weekend at our home track and go back-to-back in PASS.”
A strong field is expected this Saturday afternoon for the second major Super Late Model event of the season in New Engalnd. Former Oxford 250 winners, Ben Rowe, Travis Benjamin, Glen Luce, and Wayne Helliwell, Jr., will be joined by former Beech Ridge track champions, Dave Farrington, Jr., and Reid Lanpher, plus PASS North points leader Derek Griffith, along with former series champions, Johnny Clark and DJ Shaw. Maine’s Justin Drake, Brad Babb, Tracy Gordon, and Garrett Hall have also pre-entered along with New Hampshire’s Bryan Kruczek and John Salemi, Massachusetts’ Derek Ramstrom, and Connecticut’s Dillon Moltz.
All the action gets under way on Friday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway with rotating practice for all competing divisions from 2-6 PM. On Saturday, rotating practice will begin at 11 AM, with heat races beginning at 3 PM, followed by features for the North East Mini Stock Tour, Classic Lights, PASS Modifieds, and PASS North Super Late Models.
