Next weekend the Amsoil NELCAR Legends kick off their 2013 racing schedule at Wiscasset Speedway. Returning this season is young gun driver Wyatt Alexander, in the 96 K&B Automotive, and the Alexander race team is geared up and ready to go. “Yes, the car is ready. We were able to work out a few gremlins in the car in NC, so hopefully we are all set for a good race there.”

Though this won’t be his first race of the season as Wyatt and his father Brett, recently made the trip down south. His father explains, “We traveled down and had him do some work with Kyle Beattie Racing in Concord, NC. We traveled had him do some work to the car a few weeks ago and then went back last week to have the final set up done. While we were down there we raced at Concord Speedway to give the car a shake down with their assistance. They are a great group of guys. We had a great time.”

ACT American Canadian TourAustin Theriault Wins Spud 150
BKR Development Driver Returns Home To Score Victory

CARIBOU, Maine – The home cooking served up at Spud Speedway was just to Austin Theriault’s liking.

Theriault made a triumphant return to the northern Maine short track on Sunday afternoon, winning the track’s season-ending Spud 150 Late Model event for the second time in his career. The 18-year-old ACT Late Model Tour driver and Brad Keselowski Racing development driver first won the event as a 15-year-old in 2009.

“We had a great day up here at Spud,” Theriault said. “It was great to be back at the home track with the home crowd, and see all the people we haven’t seen in a while. I couldn’t be prouder of the whole team. We did a lot of traveling this weekend and they were all tired, but they stuck through and it was good to get them a win. There were quite a few good cars up here.”

Theriault started in the top half of the full Late Model field at Spud, but crew chief Mickey Green made the call for a pit stop early in the race to adjust on an ill-handling race car. Theriault, who sits third in the current ACT Late Model Tour standings, then battled his way back through the field to earn the victory.

(18th annual Portland Expo show set for Fri.-Sat., February 25-26)
Portland, ME – New England still has an active dirt track stock car racing scene, though it has been reduced to a trio of quarter-mile oval tracks in recent seasons.

It’s been just over a quarter-century since historic Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in nearby Scarborough was paved over, a year since Vermont’s Champlain Valley Racing Association switched their two tracks to asphalt racing surfaces, and a few months since the apparent closure of Massachusetts’ Whip City Speedway.
