Wiscasset Speedway was back in action Saturday night. Group 2 took center stage with regular action in all divisions plus the special Dave’s World Dash For Cash for the Late Model Sportsman. battles are coming into shape with just a month left in the 2017 season.

The Kennebec Equipment Rental Outlaw Minis were the spotlight division with a 35 lap feature. Just one caution slowed the action as the top three drivers in the class took control. Point leader #26 Brent Roy picked his way up from his 6th starting spot to claim the lead on lap 15 and drive to his 3rd victory of the season. Division runner-up Jake Hendsbee #27 kept Roy in his site but had to settle for the 2nd place trophy. 4-time champ Rob Greenleaf #2x finished 3rd.

The Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Model Sportsman division proved once again to be the top draw in Group 2. The 21 car field went caution-free in their 35 lap feature and produced their 7th different winner of the year. Liberty’s Josh St Clair #33 started deep in the field in 13th and took just 14 laps to charge up the outside to grab the lead. From there he stretched out his advantage to a half straightaway and cruised to his first win of 2017. Defending champ Chris Thorne #17 also worked the traffic nicely from his 17th starting position to finish 2nd, while Ryan St Clair #30 took 3rd.

The Norms Used Cars Strictly Streets had a tough time getting their 25 lap feature going. Three separate cautions would slow the action in the early going, but soon the drivers settled down and raced. Tiger Colby of Wiscasset covered the field from his 10th starting spot, beating #45 Cole Watson and #23 Zach Emerson to the checkers. However, his car failed post race inspection, giving the win over to Watson. For the Naples driver, it was his 2nd win of 2017. Emerson added to his point lead in the class with his 2nd place finish. #67 Mike Haynes was bumped up to 3rd.

The Mid Coast Region Napa Modifieds nearly went caution free for the 2nd straight race. The first 27 laps of their 30 lap feature saw #7 Nick Reno of West Bath lead a tight battle for the win with Allan Moeller, Adam Chadbourne, and Mark Lucas all in hot pursuit. Reno aced the late race restart and picked up his 2nd win of 2017. Lucas, the defending champ from Harpswell claimed the 2nd place trophy and Chadbourne finished 3rd.

The final race of the night was the Dave’s World Dash for Cash for the Late Model Sportsman class. The special 20 lap feature only was for any LMS drivers who had not won a feature in the past 2 seasons. Ten drivers answered the bell and lined up for the special cash payout from Dave’s World Sand & Gravel of Liberty. Richmond’s Cody Verrill #11 grabbed the lead from pole sitter Steve Barker on the first lap and led wire to wire to claim the win. Steve Minott of Windham followed him to victory lane for 2nd and Barker held on for 3rd. All three drivers were clearly thrilled in their first visit to victory lane this season.

Wiscasset Speedway returns to action Saturday, September 9th with Mainely Motorsports Fan Appreciation Night presented by Bozzutos Home Town Foundation. The Group 1 show will feature twin spotlight features for the Thunder 4 Minis and the Serv Pro of Biddeford-Saco Prostocks. Super Streets and 4-Cylinder Pros will also be in action.
