oxfordALAN WILSON BEST ON MOTORCYCLE SAFETY NIGHT AT OXFORD PLAINS SPEEDWAY

Oxford, Maine – Veteran competitor Alan Wilson of Hebron scored his first victory of the season in the 50-lap Super Late Model feature race on Motorcycle Safety Night presented by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, topping the Budweiser Championship Series racing card at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday night.

Wilson, one of the most prolific winners ever at the historic Route 26 oval, won his first OPS championship in the Street Stock class back in 1979. In Saturday’s Super Late Model main event he charged by early race leader Adam Polvinen and survived a mid-race challenge by reigning track champion TJ Brackett of Buckfield.

Kyle Treadwell of Auburn mounted a final challenge, but settled for runner-up honors behind Wilson in the 50-lap headliner. Timmy Brackett of Buckfield crossed the line in third position. Vanna Brackett of Buckfield made a last-lap move that paid off with a fourth-place finish, by inches over former Oxford 250 champion Scott Robbins of Dixfield.

Three heat races were contested for the Super Late Models, with Polvinen, TJ Brackett and Timmy Brackett triumphant in the preliminary events.

Zach Emerson nailed down his first Oxford Plains Speedway win in five years, prevailing in the wild, crash-filled 30-lap main event for Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stock competitors. Emerson’s victory was particularly sweet, as his teenaged son, Jonathan, was also participating in the victory lane ceremony, finishing in third position.

It was a sweep of the podium spots for Sabattus Street Stock racers, as Andrew Breton claimed runner-up honors. Bryce Mains of Naples made his first appearance of the season and finished in fourth position. Turner’s Calvin Rose, Jr. rounded out the top five. Corey Morgan of Lewiston and Rose won heat races.

Ryan Robbins helped his championship points lead out by scoring his second main event victory of the season in the OPS Mods class. Scott Alexander of Newburgh raced alongside the eventual winner for much of the race to claim runner-up honors. Nik Coates of Turner held off West Baldwin’s Randy Sanborn to earn the final podium finishing position. Robbins also claimed the checkered flag following the heat race.

Veteran Legends Cars racer Bobby Weymouth of Topsham outgunned West Newfields competitor Tyler Braunschweig to claim the top spot following the 20-lap INEX-sanctioned event. Steve Benincasa of Buxton battled hard for his third-place finish. Rounding out the top five were Mike Humphrey of Cornish and Hiram’s Roger Edgecomb. Braunschweig won the heat race.

Cam Childs of Leeds led wire-to-wire in a closely-contested 20-lap feature race for the entry-level Bandits division. Bridgton’s Troy Smith was a close second under the checkered flag, with Tyler Green’s first appearance of the season netting a third-place trophy. Oxford racers Jacob Hall and Shaun Hinkley rounded out the top five. Dan Wade of New Gloucester and Hinkley won heat races.

Budweiser Championship Series competition resumes at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday (May 30) for Wood Pellet Warehouse Night. Post time is 7:00 p.m. For more information visit oxfordplains.com or call (207) 539-8865.
