2014 Wiscasset Speedway Pro-Stock “Rookie of the Year”, Maggie Ferland, is getting ready for another season at Maine’s fastest track. “I will continue to race at Wiscasset that will be my home track for this year. I will also be traveling to other tracks in Maine and all over New England with Billy Penfold, my racing mentor. I will still be gaining more dirt experience at Volusia speedway in the spring and winter.”

So how has Maggie been keeping busy in the off season, she has been racing of course. “I have raced at Volusia Speedway in Florida. Volusia Speedway is a dirt track. I enjoy racing there and gaining experience, it is a lot different than asphalt. At school, I’ve been playing basketball and joining extra curriculums, such as the math team, art and the leadership club.”

The 2015 season opener at Wiscasset Speedway is April 18th for pro-stocks as well as NAPA Super Streets, Thunder 4 Mini, N.E.4-CYL Pro, and the Outlaw Super Series. “I am ready to race at Wiscasset. At the moment, we are still working on the car.”

Maggie has raced previously at Wiscasset Speedway in the NELCAR Legend Series, but last season she made the transition to pro-stocks. “Richard and Vanessa have always welcomed us. They gave me the opportunity to race there last year at the age of 13. The environment at Wiscasset speedway is very excepting and I enjoy racing there. I am very happy the fans support me, last year and this up and coming year.”

Maggie is only in the 8th grade now but looks to the future in her racing career. “I would like to keep racing my pro stock with different tours/series. I would like to continue racing as long as the good Lord allows me to, hoping maybe someday NASCAR.”

Maggie is like most drivers these days she started her career racing in karts. “I started racing go-karts at the age of 7 but, I started driving when I was 3. At the age of 3, I drove four wheelers.”

Being the first time racing in pro-stocks last season Maggie got a lot of good advice from her fellow racers. “They all have been accepting of my driving abilities on and off the track. Mike Orr who pitted next to us last year helped out, either with advice or just encouragement. I would have to say Billy Penfold, has been a great mentor. He has taught me a lot and continues to teach me.”

This season Maggie has lined up two great sponsors to support her with racing, “My sponsors this year are my dad and my mom. They work very hard with their multiple businesses to provide for me and my sister both on and off the track.”

Maggie’s dad Scott raced with her in the legend series, and Maggie’s mom raced in the Ladies Division at Oxford Plains Speedway, and her sister Allie, is doing double duty this race season, “She will be at BRMS with her Whiz Kidz, and this year she will just practice her Allison legacy car.”
