CHARLOTTE, NC (October 14) – With another season headed into the record books over the next month or so for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model division, teams busily prepare for their next challenge coming up this weekend in the Orange County 150 presented by CV Products at Orange County Speedway. Amongst them is the Auramist-sponsored #28 team of young Jared Irvan. The third generation racer currently sits third in PASS South Super Late Model points competing in his first full season racing full-bodied stock cars.
Under the guidance of his father, 1991 Daytona 500 winner Ernie Irvan, Jared has developed a style all his own. Conspicuously smooth and conservative, especially for his young age, Jared Irvan has been knocking on the door of his first victory in PASS South. Last year while competing in a limited schedule of events, he came just nine laps short of victory at South Boston Speedway, finishing second to eventual winner Ross Kenseth. And, this year, in addition to finishing fourth in the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway, Irvan led laps late in the race at Southern National Motorsports Park in July before eventually finishing in fifth. Those runs have Irvan confident he can get another good finish this Saturday night at Orange County Speedway.
“This year’s been pretty good, we’ve made some changes over the last couple of races and I think we’ve got a real good chance to come out and win the race,” said Irvan. “Every time we go back to a race track I get better. Hopefully this time at Orange County I can go out and get a win.”
Orange County Speedway has produced some of the most memorable finishes in PASS South Super Late Model history over the year. With its steep banking on both the straightaways and in the turns, Orange County provides multiple grooves for drivers to choose from as they pilot their 600+ horsepower machines.
In his first ever trip to Orange County Speedway behind the wheel of a PASS South Super Late Model last year, Irvan survived a wild race to come home with a solid eighth place finish. Irvan believes that this weekend’s Orange County 150 presented by CV Products could be equally as challenging as last year’s event. But, it is a challenge he thinks he and his team will be ready for.
“Orange County is a lot of fun, really fast and a lot of action every second,” said Irvan. “You can run right up next to the wall and get right next to it and get everything you can get every lap. You can win the race from the bottom or you can win it from the top, wherever’s faster for you.”
Another great field of PASS South Super Late Models is expected for this weekend’s Orange County 150 presented by CV Products including championship contenders Tyler Church, Cole Timm, Jared Irvan, and Trevor Noles. Hometown favorite Tate Fogleman will be looking to defend his dad Jay Fogleman’s win in this race a year ago. Preston Peltier will be back as he goes for his fourth straight PASS South win, while Brandon Setzer, Trey Jarrell, Tanner Rumburg, and Lucas Jones will seek out their first career wins. Veterans Brandon Ward, Jimmy Doyle, Jody Measamer, and Ted Mickelson return as they look to get to victory lane for the first time this season.
Action at Orange County Speedway will get under way on Friday, October 17th with rotating practice for all divisions from 3 – 6 PM. On Saturday, October 18th, practice will start at 1 PM, followed by qualifying at 4:30 PM and racing slated to start at 6 PM. The PASS South Super Late Models will race for 150 laps, along with 50 laps for the PASS Pro Late Models, and 35 laps for the USAC Eastern Midgets.
