Lee, NH – The David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stocks took center stage at Lee USA Speedway Friday night, and they wowed the crowd with a non-stop, green-to-checker 50-lap main event in their biggest race of the season.
Niko Maniatis quickly broke out of the pack to set the pace when flagman Don Horvath let them loose, leading the first eight circuits before he fell to the charge of Chris Jacobson, who went the distance from there to collect the win, holding off a tough challenge from multi-feature winner Jim Shorey in the late laps to score top honors.
Shorey gave it everything he had over the final ten laps, but he couldn’t find a way past Jacobson and had to settle for runner-up at the checkers. Third spot went to veteran Jim Piaseczny, with Maniatis, Paul Palen, Alby Ovitt, Patrick Tanguay, Kyle Sawyer, Kenny Scott, Jr., and Brian DeStefano the rest of the top ten.
P.J. Stergios made a statement in the Benson Lumber and Hardware Small Block Supermodified feature, powering past the high-flying Leslie Keyser to take the lead, and then pulling away to pick up his first feature event score of the 2012 campaign in his family-owned, CASA-sponsored machine.
Sparky MacIver had another strong run to come home with second place honors, followed by Keyser with his best result of the year in the third spot. Fourth went to defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Small Block Supermodified champ Wayne Helliwell, Jr. with Tommy Tombarello, Jr., Mike Ordway, Jr., Mike Netishen, Moe Lattime, and Jason Phillips finishing fifth through tenth.
J.R. Baril won the Late Model Sportsman feature. After a tech inspection of the #92 Late Model Sportsman car found that Grant Aither was in violation of the ride height rule and the added-on weight rule. Grant was penalized and placed to the rear of the field. Jimmy Russell moved into second. Tony Kawejsza, Alby Ovitt, and Timmy Johnson rounded out your top five.
Danielle Simoneau picked up her second win of the season in the American Used Auto Parts Ironman feature event, holding off the most recent first-time winner, Shane Horvath, for the victory. Points leader Jake Rheaume finished third just ahead of Evan Horvath, with Chris Murray rounding out the top five.
