Team Maine Racing is headed to Labrador again to compete in the 2008 Cain’s Quest. Cain’s Quest is a 1200 to 1400 mile snowmobile endurance race that takes teams of 2 racers across the wilderness of Labrador. No roads, no trails and no railroad beds just GPS coordinates to the 18 checkpoints that have to be reached in order. The route takes them from Labrador City to Churchill Falls via Schefferville, from Churchill Falls to Goose Bay, from Goose Bay back to Churchill Falls and Churchill Falls directly back to Lab City. It is an ultimate test of man and machine just to finish the race. The start of the race is on Sunday March 9th.

Last year Team Maine Racing was the first team from the United States to enter this event and also the 1st team from the US to finish the race, finishing 5th overall of the 18 teams that entered. Rob Gardner says “Cain’s Quest 2007 was the most physically, mentally and emotionally draining thing that I have ever done in my life”. Racers Rich Knipping (Monmouth) and Rob Gardner (Mercer), with the help of their other Team Members, Dana Blackstone (Winthrop) and Todd Smith (Oakland), have prepared themselves to be able to compete with the top racers for a win in this years event, although just finishing the race is a victory in itself. Knipping comments that “Team Maine has the talent, the support and the experience to be competitive in this event; We look forward to March of 2008”.

Thanks to their many sponsors including; Ski-Doo, Mission Trailers, Freightliner of Maine, Creative Paint Concepts, TSSD, Kennebec Lumber, Dysarts, JBI Motosports and many other companies and individuals, they are able to compete in the event as well as raise money for the Pine Tree Camp in Rome, Maine. Last year they were able to donate $3300 to Pine Tree Camp and hope to have raised even more than that once the dust settles this year.
