“Firecracker 125” Looks To Be One of the Hottest Races of the Season

CONCORD, NC (June 25, 2007) There is nothing more American than the Fourth of July.  It’s a day that celebrates the country’s independence, where families cookout, watch fireworks and spend the day together.  Well, there are few professional sports in the country more American than short track racing.

Before families get together to celebrate the holiday, they will be able to take in a slice of Americana the night before by attending “Firecracker 125” at Peachstate Speedway in Jefferson, GA, the fourth event of the 2007 season for the PASS South Super Late Models.  The 125-lap event is slated to go green at 8pm and will mark the first time PASS South will visit the half-mile track.

“This is one of those tracks that everyone in the Southeast knows about and talks about,” said Tom Mayberry, Owner and President of PASS South.  “We’ve had a huge response from drivers and teams calling for information leading into this race.  We’ve had more calls from Florida and several other states.  There are more people becoming interested in the series, and going to tracks like Peachstate helps us build our following.”

Even though official entry blanks for the “Firecracker 125” just went out and an official entry list has yet to be posted, several drivers have already shown interest in attending the event.  In fact, many new drivers to the series are expected to attend the Peachstate event.

One driver planning to return to Peachstate is Grant Enfinger, a regular racer at Five Flags Speedway and a former Blizzard Series winner.  Enfinger made his first PASS South start at Orange County Speedway in early June.  The youngster led several laps and eventually finished fourth.

“I enjoyed the heck out of it,” said Enfinger, an Alabama native.  “I really enjoyed racing on these American Racer tires.  You can really run on them hard, where you can’t do that with the tires I’m used to running back home.  We really had a lot of fun out there.  The officials were great to work with and the other competitors were awesome; they were tough.  It didn’t matter if you were racing up front or in the middle of the pack, there was plenty of hard racing going on.  No one was going to give an inch.  That is the type of racing that makes it fun to go out there week-after-week.”

After three events, a total of 50 drivers have already competed in at least one PASS South event during the 2007 season.  Young Ryan Lawler leads the point standings on the strength of two wins and another second-place finish.  Corey Williams, a Southern transplant from the state of Maine, won the last PASS South event, which was held at Orange County Speedway in North Carolina.

Dean Clattenburg, Tim Nooner, Heath Hindman and Maine’s Ben Rowe round out the top-five drivers in PASS South points.

“We know guys like Jason Hogan and several other Georgia regulars will be back with us at Peachstate,” added Mayberry.  “And we’ve heard names like Ryan Crane and several drivers that are looking to come out for the event.  You put that many good drivers on a track like Peachstate, where the track is gritty and it takes a lot of finesse to run well there, and the fans are in for a treat.  We’ve had some exciting races already in 2007, and being the Fourth of July weekend, I think we’ll have some more fireworks here.”

Peachstate Speedway’s local divisions, including Mini-Stocks, Iceman, Sportsman and Super Trucks, will all run with the PASS South Super Late Models on July 3rd.  A fireworks show will also be a big part of the night’s activities.
