Bullwinkle's - Dirt Tracks in Maine

Bullwinkle's Raceway
Moosehead Industrial Park
Little Moose Twp. Greenville Junction 04442
(1/4 mile dirt) Doug Whitney 207-695-3566

Bullwinkle's Raceway is located in the Industrial Park, just around the bend from the railroad overpass in Greenville Junction. It is a short drive from downtown Greenville, within sight of Mooshead Lake. This race track came into being several years ago as a means for providing Moosehead's ice racers with a place close to home where they could run in the summertime. However, the efforts of Doug Whitney and his enthusiastic crew have instead turned this little 1/4 mile dirt track into the "place to go" on Saturday's (5pm - 7pm) in the Greenville area. Bullwinkle's pulls in a pretty decent crowd, especially considering the limited population of the area. The grandstands are limited, but Bullwinkle fans seem not to notice as they bring their lawn chairs, plunk them down in the elevated earthen platform constructed by race track crews for that purpose, and sit themselves down for a couple of hours of exciting dirt tracking. With the seating located up high, there is no difficulty seeing any portion of this race track. Treatment of the track surface makes dust a minor issue for the fans.

Bullwinkle's runs a number of classes, from 4 cylinder front-wheel drives, to rear-wheel drive V-8's, to full-size pickups, to a large youth class that will rock your socks, to an occasional visit from "Wicked Good's" vintage flatheads and in-lines of the 50's era. Interspersed with the regular show, are special featured events, such as Bullwinkle's 'boat races' and the popular "Last Man Standing" crash fest. This one the kids especially love as it is run, you guessed it, in the MUD. Car numbers have little significance, as they tend to disappear within two minutes or so, but the crash and bash action goes on long after you have lost track of who is who. Eventually there is one lonely mudball wobbling its way to the checkered, with a driver that may spend the next three days trying to find out exactly who they are !

All in all, Bullwinkle's Raceway puts on a good show; sideways through the turns, rooster tails down the straights, and drivers suddenly finding themselves upside down.
